Royal Daffodil - A Tight Fit at Prince's Landing Stage

Photographs © Ian Collard John H. Luxton 2006

Ian Collard captured these images of ROYAL DAFFODIL arriving at and departing from Prince's Landing Stage around 11:00 on Saturday Match 11, 2006. Passengers board the ferry by a gangway which is carried on board. Due to the fact that the Prince's Stage sits higher in the water the ROYAL DAFFODIL has been fitted with padding above the gangway - covered in blue - to prevent tall  passengers banging their head when embarking and disembarking.  In the right hand photo the submerged remains of the Mersey Ferries George's Landing Stage can just be seen. It is unlikely that Mersey Ferries will operate from their own stage again until well into next year.

These views taken from the front promenade deck of ROYAL DAFFODIL on March 11, show just how close the ferries have to berth to SEA EXPRESS I. A 74m Incat and a Mersey Ferry fit the stage - just with a gap between the two bows or around 10 feet. However, it is clear that when SUPERSEACAT TWO returns to service later this month it is difficult to see how both the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and Mersey Ferries will be able to use the stage at the same time.
