My
friend and I had booked ourselves onto a day trip on the
ISLE OF INISHMORE on the 15:00 sailing
out from Holyhead on Saturday January 21, returning on the 21:05.
Once on board for the return trip, the departure time came and went,
until it was announced that the sailing was cancelled due to the bow
ramp having been damaged!
Then
we were also told that the 09:05 crossing on Sunday morning was
cancelled. We were then told that if we were to stay on board the
ship until 07:00 (oh, and apparently we were “welcome to sleep in
any of the lounges” – how generous!), then we would be transferred
to the STENA ADVENTURER's 08:30 sailing
– as foot passengers!!!
So
that is what we did, and ended up with the longest “day trip” I have
ever made, with the added bonus of travelling back on the
Adventurer, which to me is a seriously underrated ship, and it’s
time that foot passengers were allowed to choose to travel on this
ship, without having to experience the kind of delay we did last
night and this morning.
So, here are some photos taken of the stricken Isle of
Inishmore stuck on Dublin’s Berth 49,
taken from the passing Stena Adventurer.
Just goes to show that despite Stena’s
excuses that it is “not possible to accept foot passengers on the
Stena Adventurer”, this is clearly very
easy to do in times of need.
