HMAV Bounty - The 1962 Replica Visits Liverpool

Photographs © John H. Luxton 2007

Metro Goldwyn Mayer commissioned this replica of HMAV BOUNTY for their 1962 film 'Mutiny on the Bounty' starring Trevor Howard and Marlon Brando.  Originally named BOUNTY II. This vessel was built to the original plans and in the traditional manner in a shipyard in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. However, all the dimensions were increased by approximately one third to accommodate the large 70 mm cameras used so she is bigger than the original ship. Restored in recent years at a cost of $3m she has appeared in other movies including 'Pirates of The Caribbean'. She is currently on a seven week tour of the UK prior to embarking on a world tour via South Africa and New Zealand to Pitcairn and Tahiti. Her presence in Liverpool certainly attracted a lot of attention and large queues had formed by 09:00! This is probably the largest turn out in recent years for just one particular visiting ship! She is seen here in Canning Basin on Saturday August 18, 2007.
