HNoMY NORGE was built by Camper and Nicholson at Southampton and launched in 1937 as the PHILANTE for Sir Thomas Sopwith. During WWII it acted as a convoy escort ship. After WWII, Sir Thomas experienced a period of financial difficulties before going on to found Hawker-Siddeley. During the immediate post war period she was bought by Norway in 1947 time for King Haakon's 75th Birthday. She was refitted and renamed NORGE in 1948.

The Norwegian Royal Yacht HNoMY NORGE visited Douglas over the weekend of September 15 -17 2006 along with naval guard ship M350 KNM ALTA. The Norwegian Royal Family were visiting Dublin and the ships put back to Douglas for crew break. |

King Haakon was succeeded by his son King Olav in 1957 and over a period of ten years the ship was progressively upgraded. In 1985 during a refit a major fire broke out on board causing extensive damage. However, the ship was rebuilt and rentered service the following year. Today the ship is provides a means of travel for the current King Harald between June and late September. |
