Freighters & Dredgers in Manx Waters

Photographs & Notes © Jenny Williamson 2008

SILVER RIVER sheltered below us for a while in Laxey Bay on the evening of June 22. Someone seemed to be checking her over - anyway, she didn't remain there long. FORTH FISHER was noted in Douglas Bay on the morning of June 23, and looked good with the lighthouse behind her. She went onto the Battery Pier to discharge. SPECIALITY came down the west of the Island slowly the same morning, and was photographed off Peel, where she was waiting for the tide to rise before coming in to discharge on the pier.

There are still two dredgers hard at work in Peel. They came over to the Isle of Man at the beginning of February, and are part of the fleet of Wyre Marine services of Fleetwood, helping to prepare the inner harbour for marina pontoons. LANTIC BAY did some work in Douglas and Peel in 2007, but I don't believe RAMSGATE has been here before. The work was only supposed to take two months, so is well over schedule.
