Fishing Protest Flotilla Arrives At Dublin

Photographs © Tony Brennan 2006

Hundreds of fishing boats took part in protests in Dublin, Waterford, Cork and Galway on Friday February 03 against legislation now going through the Dáil. Irish fishermen are demanding an end to what they claim is a government attempt to criminalise them in the Sea Fisheries Bill.

The Irish Government says it must include criminal provisions in the bill. EU fisheries officials have said they favour administrative penalties, in line with most other EU countries. Here the Dublin bound flotilla is seen arriving at the capital.
