Alda K Ends Her Days at Dublin #1 Dry Dock

Photographs © Tony Brennan 2006

Over the years many new ships have appeared on the Irish Sea Ships web site. However, few ships in their final days of existence have appeared. Tony Brennan's fascinating shots below show the demolition of the 1954 built ALDA K.

ALDA K arrived in Dublin in 2003 and was apparently detained. She was moved to Sir John Rogerson's Quay (top right) before being moved into the Dublin #2 dry dock for inspection before being returned to Sir John Rogerson's Quay. She was then taken to #1 dry dock as she had begun taking in water.

It is in #1 dry dock where she is being broken up this May - (bottom right). It is understood that the value of her scrap is being retained in payment for outstanding debts

It is interesting to note that the Equasis entry for  ALDA K (left) was only updated on April 24, 2006 and she is shown as "in service" ! Her Dublin detention isn't recorded on Equasis - but the ship has quite a colourful deficiency detention history in the UK and France!

IMO number: 5276965 Name of ship: ALDA K

It has for some time been the intention for the Dublin #1 dry dock to be in filled. It may very well be that the ALDA K is the final ship to use the dry dock.
