Mersey Travel's contractors have commenced cuttingthe historic U534 the sole surviving Type IXC 40 U-boat into sections. The "cheese cutting" method can be clearly seen. Meanwhile at Woodside site preparations are underway to accomodate the dismembered vessel and a visitor centre.

The wire used for cutting the boat into sections is impregnated with diamonds and gives a very neat and thin cut.  Merseytravel claim that, using this method she could easily be welded back together without losing an inch off her length.  The fourth photo is at Woodside and shows the preparation of the site where U534 will be displayed along with a visitor centre.  MERSEY MAMMOTH will transport the four pieces to Woodside at the end of March with a view to her being opened to the public in late summer.
